Gadna

This past week from Sunday to Wednesday Heller High participated in Gadna at Sde Boker. It was an experience all right. The first day when we arrived we learned how to stand in Akshev. When we put our bags down and came back we were yelled at in Hebrew which was translated by one our bilingual classmates. We were told how this week would be very hard but a good experience. We were then split into Sevetim (group) I was in 19 and had Noya to translate everything. She worked really hard and did an amazing job. I thought her translating was absolute magic due to our Mfahkedet’s accent, how fast she was talking and how much she was saying before Noya could translate. Ammunition Hill Tiyul Ethan Mundell Kitat Maayan This past week Kitat Maayan visited Ammunition Hill and Hebrew University: Mount Scopus where decisive battles took place during the Six Day War. The cause of the war was the election of Gamal Abdel Nasser as the Egyptian President in 1956. He incited a hatred for the Israeli occupation of Palestine by all of the Arab Nations surrounding Israel. Israel invaded the Sinai Peninsula as an attempt to open the waterways. This was called the Sinai Campaign. The UN tried to avoid conflict by commandeering the peninsula. From then they installed UN troops to be a buffer between Egypt and Israel. While this was happening the Syrians in the Golan Heights were redirecting Israel's water supply via the Jordan river, cutting off wat...

In the beginning the goal was to work with the British to create a Jewish state. Then that's when the cycle began, ☆Aliyah עלייה ☆Arab Riots (1920-1930s) ☆British commissions British were in need of stability. ☆White papers MacDonald White Paper: Limited Aliyah to 75,000 people in the range of 5 years. This also put a limit of Jewish land purchase. The goal of the MacDonald White Paper was to have an Arab state in 10 years time. From this an illegal aliyah system was created called Aliyah Bet. "We will fight Hitler as if there is no white paper, and we will fight the white paper as if there is no Hitler." ~Ben Gurion Hence a Jewish defense organization was forme...
